Rathlin Island
Drove up to Ballycastle from Dublin this morning and took the ferry over to Rathlin Island. Famous for its sea birds I've been meaning to visit Rathlin for a while now. Took the bike over and pedalled out to the west lighthouse, curiously the light is at the bottom of the building, not the top, --- it's so frequently misty here that they put the light low to keep it below the hill cloud! But not too much cloud today, mostly clear skies. Thousands of guilliemots and kittiwakes, today's blip is the guilliemot colony at the west lighthouse. The extras are: a puffin (of course, who can resist them?); a guilliemot; a kittiwake (with something -- seaweed? -- in its bill); and an encounter between a kittiwake and a guilliemot on its nest.
