Flowers and water

Charlestown tends to be flowerless, and all the harbour area is dull grey and dark brown stone. So when the flowers (Valerian) appear the place is transformed. These pink ones grow in most Cornish hedgerows and are clinging to parts of the harbour stone. It hasn’t rained since May 15th but these plants are thriving. They grow in places where no one can reach them to tend them, so they’re ideal for places like this.

Since I realised how they can thrive anywhere without water or attention, I planted some in my garden and they are doing well. I just wish they would smother the brambles!

It’s still too hot for me. It seems there just MIGHT be some rain at the weekend.
