Throwback
Almost a year ago, when I was 15 years old, I was in Rwanda with some of my school mates and even some Americans. We spent time visiting various people who had been affected by the genocide, which happened 19 years ago.
We went to many memorial sites and cried buckets however we also got to see the places where our money was spent and how it has helped many people after the horrors that happened in the past.
For those of you who don't know, the genocide was between the two main tribes in Rwanda, the Hutu's and Tutsi's. the Belgian government had put the Tutsi tribe in charge of the country, however they changed their mind just before they left and decided to let the Hutu's take power instead. Because the Hutu's were now known as the superiors race, they took advantage and started brutally killing the Tutsi tribe for 100 days.
Some of the things I saw and the stories I heard while in Rwanda have completely changed my life. It's devastating to think that the human race can be so awful towards each other, and it still goes on today.
This picture reminds me of all the good and bad memories of Rwanda as the picture was drawn for me to cheer me up after a particularly distressing day.
I will never forget my time in Rwanda and thoroughly recommend anyone to spend some time in the gorgeous country.
