Red carpet

Taken on the way back from the first of many dental appointments this month. I thought I'd missed the poppy season, but we found this slightly faded carpet on our detour along the back roads looking (unsuccessfully) for bee eater nesting sites. It was a muggy day, with storm clouds and rumbling of distant thunder, but we didn't get rained on.

In the evening we were invited to Sue's along with A and B for aperos. The non-storm had cleared the air and it was a lovely mild evening with not a breath of wind. Very pleasant to sit on the terrace with a view over the vines ... at one point a sparrowhawk landed briefly in the garden. Quite a few bottles of wine were downed along with copious tapas, and we were startled when we realised it was midnight -- cue the streetlights switching off and plunging us into darkness for the walk home.
