Things To Do

After a slow morning, a busy afternoon together.

First stop was the garage.  Teqla appeared to be consuming more motor oil than usual, and the culprit was a defective valve.  They had to send for a replacement from their branch further away, but speeded things up by removing the specific valve from one of their own cars and installing it in ours so that we would not have to wait.  To top it all, when we asked how much it all cost, the answer was... 'Nothing!'  Wise men say that there are no free lunches in life.  Well, I'll take what's being offered.  We've been with this garage for 21 years and with good reason.

Next important stop was a new laptop to replace AW's 12-year specimen, and that was truly necessary.  He'd been delaying this for a very long time and I felt that if it had to be done, then now was the time to do it.  Visited two shops and one had a better offer for the exact same model, so that is what we got.

Between the two shops, though, was a Delifrance café and ice cream was on both our minds.  25 degrees!  The shopping area we were in is far removed from the city centre, almost next to the motorway, so no crowds, no parking issues, no noise, and no hurry.  AW opted for a single scoop on a cone but I had to have this one, which was piled rather high before I dug into it.

Back home, after a brief rest, AW unpacked his new treasure and began installing it, while I checked my mail, and lo and behold! -- a vacancy at the same university I'm working at now, but at the other academy where I applied last year, Leisure and Events.  It was Gina who alerted me to it and of course I responded straight away.  No guarantees, of course, but this will again be a temporary affair to replace a colleague going on maternity leave.  Deadline is 19 June but it would be lovely if they replied sooner.  Anyway, I can now include it in my list of job-hunting activities for the unemployment-benefit office.

For dinner, had to head back to town.  Our usual wok take-away joint was closed (maybe for good?) so walked further into town and found another Asian restaurant.  We might try it out one day, who knows.  As for the back of AW's thumb, the swelling has gone from the other parts of his hand, so that's a good sign, but we've quite a way to go yet.

Thankful for jobs done and fair, fair weather!
