A momentous day in our history

On this day in 1944 the allies landed on the beaches in Normandy. Our father was a driver with the Royal Canadian Engineers and would have passed through the heavily bombed city of Caen. This painting of the ruined city by the war artist Will Ogilvie shows what he must have experienced.
