First full day on the Northumberland coast and sadly the cloud cover refused to clear despite the best predictions from the met office. Alnwick was our destination. We enjoyed a visit to the castle but with grey skies we only viewed the gardens from the gate.

It’s at least 15 years since we were last here, so although much was familiar, we were able to admire the history, rather than get involved in the kids activities and the Harry Potter locations which were a must last time.

We were also able to wander through the town stopping for an excellent lunch, browsing Barter Books and unexpectedly buying a painting.

All in all a good day despite the clouds.
