The backup tree

Not much going on in the nest, just a couple of heads popping up every once in a while, and once a single yellow foot. I watched mom or dad being chased by a couple of redwing blackbirds, and while trying to see where they ended up, I noticed the nice shape of this tree, which is further up the field from the nest tree. When I got home and looked at the picture, I saw that both mom and dad had been sitting in the tree when I took the picture - on the left, one above the other.
Today was the first time that I heard the babies - they sounded exactly how I thought they would - part baby bird, part shrill hawk.
