Perfect

Woken by sun streaming through the long windows and it stayed warm and sunny and cloudless all day. Heavenly!
Faffed about a bit over tea and crosswords and various other word games (all of which I was useless at!) then a flurry of emails when another person unable to attend the meeting this afternoon led to a postponement. Headed off to the art studios around Corte Castle. As we wandered around between the galleries and studios (some lovely ceramics, prints and embroidery) we tried to remember how many times we’d visited here before…the afternoon tea we shared with wasps once in the castle’s tea room and the time I sat feeding A in that same tea room garden more than 30 years ago…gulp! Always very lovely though…and was very envious of one artist’s house and garden which was stunning, and a real little oasis despite the busy main road outside.
Drove back and walked along the beach for our seafood platter lunch at The Cabin. Fabulous to sit overlooking the sea and cloudless sky munching our way through the squid, scampi, fish fillets, crab and prawns….the table next to us we’re having a good moan about someone called Lisa and she and her Quaver related greed became a bit of a trope the rest of the day in our conversations!
From there we headed to Durlston Country Park just round the corner where we saw some more exhibitions (and had a nice chat with a printmaker), had an ice cream, and admired the amazing views of the coastline from the castle terraces. We walked along the coast path towards the lighthouse watching the guillemots swooping into their cliff perches and spotting some pyramid orchids.
There were stones marking the passing of geological time near the castle and also some poetry quotes about time….I liked Carol Ann Duffy’s one that I put in the collage.
Back to pick up some food for this evening in town then we parked the car and walked down to the beach again and sat on a bench watching the rowers and dog walkers and generally enjoying the late afternoon sun before home for mushroom pasta and an Edgar Allen Poe related film. What a brilliant day…everything’s better with sunshine!
