Solitary no longer

A week ago when I was at Western Springs (Te Wai Orea), I did not see the Weweia (dabchick) that had been frequenting this bayon the southern side of the lake. Today there were two Weweia on the Bay and I watched as they conducted a 'courtship' out in the lake. There was quite a lot of posturing with their heads, and a couple of short and sweet dives lasting only a second or two.

Despite the best efforts of the Karuhiruhi, the eel population in the lake poses a serious risk to the little Weweia. I mhope this couple manage to raise a chick or two.
