Great Spotted Woodpecker

This male Great Spotted Woodpecker has been seen in our garden several times over the last couple of weeks but is usually very difficult to capture.

I was so thrilled this morning to look out and see him hanging around the wall and the bird feeders, and I had just enough time to get a few shots of him before he disappeared.

The habitat of woodpeckers is usually in broadleaf or coniferous woodland but apparently in recent years the Great Spotted Woodpeckers have been making increasing use of parks and gardens.
