Old Harry
Another stunning day, although with a more insistent wind, especially in the morning, than we’ve had other days. We’d planned to go into Swanage for breakfast and also visit the last of the open studios around town, but unfortunately the Salt Pig wasn’t the best choice as our options were both served in hard and far too chunky rolls to make them easy to eat. Never mind, won’t go there again, and afterwards we enjoyed browsing the galleries and charity shops and I even found a White Stuff dress.
Walked back up the hill to get the car and drove over to Studland then had a lovely skylark filled walk up to the cliffs by Old Harry Rocks to admire the stunning views. Wow!
Back through the woods and across the grassy paths and stopped for a drink at the little pub garden. A helicopter was buzzing about, but although we could hear it we didn’t see it.
Drove along to Shell Bay and had a great walk along the beach, collecting some gold and black shells that were quite unusual, but despite its name it didn’t have that many to beachcomb around. The sand was gorgeous though…soft and warm.
Back along the sand dunes to a National Trust cafe for scones, jam and cream and a cup of tea. Not the best I’ve ever had (standards are slipping at the NT!) but good enough, and the helicopter came back with a vengeance, swooping low over our heads and along the coast to the rocks before disappearing. Then we had a bit of a snooze in the sand, and watched the swallows swooping down to catch the flies that were in some of the seaweed close to the waters edge.
Home for some tea and a clean up before down to the Pier Head Bistro for supper. Lovely fresh grilled mackerel, salad and fries…just what we fancied and delicious. Another spectacular day.
