No through road

An incident on Sluice Road today. A pair of swans and their 5 cygnets ended up on AG Wright sluice. Not an easy thing to do, especially for cygnets. Vehicles can come round those bends rather swiftly so they had to be moved. Problem was the parents had become fixated on the water beneath the bridge; on their own they could have flown there but not with cygnets in tow. They would get down to one end of the bridge but wouldn't pass that point because they felt they were walking away from the water so they would turn round and head for the other end. This could have gone on all day but in the end a bit of gentle persuasion got them in to the Environment Agency car park where a large gap in the fence leads down to the waterside. Job done. At least you would think so. Shortly after I bumped into a walking acquaintance and relayed the story to him. "I don't think they got to the river. I've just seen them sitting outside the EA office" he said. Probably waiting to file a complaint.
