Day two of J trialling her new mobility scooter.

It can be disassembled into five parts, so is transportable in a car. We took it to the promenade at Crosby beach, which proved to be good terrain. We did learn that it should not be driven through sand, I nearly did my back in trying to lift it to get it moving again.

Anthony Gormley’s sculptures get better as they age. Modelled on his own body, there are 100 of them, and how they look depends on how much time they are immersed in water. Those which sink regularly beneath the waves are barnacled, this one is higher up the beach and so has a rusty patina and is mollusc free.

J really enjoyed her ride, she likes the feeling of independence.,
