WOLFS and a stone circle
WOLFS - Wainwright Outlying Fells. The couple on the top of Buck Barrow told us this is what they called them and they had just 2 left. We were ticking off 4 today:- Buck Barrow 549m, Whitfell, 573m and also marilyn, Burnmoor 543m and Kinmont Buck Barrow 535m . A few km from the high fell road over Corney Fell so the height climb was not as bad as last week, only 360m !!. We've now ticked off 77 / 116. The extra is Mr P at the pathetic cairn on Burnmoor looking towards Whitfell which has a splendid cairn and a trig point but I forgot to take a photo. We visited the Swinside Stone circle on the way back which was far more scenic. One of the best preserved stone circles in Europe and possible the best in Cumbria. The tallest stones are 10 feet high and its rarely visited. Thats because its about 1.5km uphill on a track from a tiny road over the fell with very few passing places let alone parking places. We tried parking in a farm yard but were moved on promptly by a woman who was straight out to move us on when we parked. She was kind enough though to tell us where we could squeeze a car in further down the road.
