Sparklers...

The back yard cookout we were at today had been planned for a few weeks...a double celebration of a birthday and a baby about to be born. So when the day broke, soggy and drizzling, I myself had doubts that the plans would hold. Our intrepid host and hostess assured us that no amount of rain mattered, the party was a go.

While it alternated between a gentle drizzle and a more insistent light downpour, some delicious veggie kebabs, fish and burgers were grilled to perfection and enjoyed by all. A couple of kegs of home brewed beer washed it all down very nicely.

There were numerous mud-running little ones, all zipped up cozy in their rain hoodies. When dusk fell, they were allowed to handle sparklers and judging by their expressions, that was the highlight of the day for them.

Today was the anniversary of D-day. All the peaceful fun and merriment seems so far removed from the horrors of that day.
