Spotted Thick-knee (Burhinus capensis)
... also known as the Spotted Dikkop or Cape Thick-knee, is a stone-curlew in the family Burhinidae. Read more about them in Wikipedia.
Charmaine took me for a ride through the complex today and we saw these cute little grass 'huts' under a tree, on closer inspection, I discovered this sweetie pie, guarding over the 'nests'. She was oh, so protective of her territory, but when she moved away, I peeped into them, but there is nothing in there yet, I suppose she has adopted this nest, quite an improvement on the usual way of nesting on the bare, hard ground. Getting more 'civilized' methinks? ;-)
