Scapes

Growing garlic for the first time this year. At this point in their growth, the scapes have appeared.

If allowed to develop, these would flower. But, as the wise gardening folks have instructed me, I have cut them off, to let the plants focus on building up the bulbs.

Which also creates this early summer delicacy. We used them instead of spring onions in potato salad, and blistered the rest whole on the barbecue. Delicious!
