Battle Hill (577 ft)

Was the site of a clash between Ngati Toa and British troops in 1846. After a period of Māori resistance to New Zealand Company attempts to buy land, Crown forces besieged the hilltop pa of Ngati Toa chief Te Rangihaeata for several days.
At The Boss's direction a couple of our walking group"battled" for his camera, but their hearts were just not in it...Extra.  + View to the valley.
It was a really great walk up the hill through bush tracks and down on the farm property tracks complete with considerable mud....and a great cafe (Ground Effect Cafe) for lunch.
