The Martello Tower was built circa 1807 by a workforce paid 6 shillings per 1000 bricks and board and lodging. Napoleon didn't turn up, so the tower went through several identities including a roller- skating rink, tearoom plus a flat on top as you see. Now it's our much-loved local museum.
