Whose Tail Tip?

We found this tail tip on our evening walk. I wonder whose it is? I thought it might be dead Reynard's but we checked and, though the maggots are doing a wonderful job of recycling his corpse, his tail tip is still there. This doesn't look red enough to me to belong to a fox.
