Learning about the world

Sometimes I feel a bit sorry for the parents of a delightful baby. Their lovely baby, in this case Sol, attracts all the attention, leaving them as caring appendages of the little wonder. However, maybe that is as it should be - we can blame evolution!
Which is why my blips, yesterday and today, feature the little lad.
Today we were down at Smitingen, our lovely beach. We went set up to swim but the water was only 12° C so my feet and ankles were the only part of me to feel that very cold water. It's very different to yesterday's lake, which was much warmer.
Sol was very happy crawing around in the sand, picking up whatever he found . He was encouraged away from a discarded drinks packet and towards more natural debris, a stick, or in this case pine cones. Once he's homed in on something he concentrates wonderfully on it for a few seconds or minutes before moving on to the next thing.  You can almost see his brain growing as it takes in all this new information.
He's very happy standing up, but so far hasn't moved on to actual walking. Or to sitting down once he's up on his feet, hence Wills, his dad, waiting to catch him when he inevitabley tips forward or back.
We've had a few visitors recently with young children or babies and I love watching these small "learning engines" in action. I've also been very impressed by their parents who give them so much loving care and attention!
Jan's blip, showing him in action with his stick, is a good partner to this one.
