Barley in the grass

All over devils point grassland there are ears of barley! I think it is because people feed the pigeons but Sian thinks it is because they used to grow barley there and the seeds have been dormant for a long time and have just popped up this year! May also be no mow May which allows other seeds to germinate and grow instead of being chopped down!
