THUMPER

This is Thumper...the resident Eastern Cottontail Rabbit (Silvilagus floridanus).  I was sitting at the kitchen table watching the robin building her nest in a hanging basket of pansy flowers when Thumper came out from under the thick foliage of the lily plants in my kidney planter.  He spent the morning filling his belly with fresh clover and just decided to stretch out in the cool foliage and take a nap right out in the open.  I've never seen him do that before......but look at those ears.  RADAR straight up and rotating constantly to pick up every sound nearby.  He's totally aware and totally asleep at the same time.  Very cool.....one very relaxed bunny. I can walk to within two feet of him before he gets nervous and moves away a few feet....but never far.
