Books

I managed to join the school librarians to work on a project I help secure. We were given £50,000 by the Scottish Library and Information Council for a project around diversity in school libraries, part of it is to provide a collection of diverse books to every school, primary and secondary, in the council. Then there will be events, workshops, teaching resources etc.. I'll spare you the details! The books have started to arrive and here is a small selection.

Needless to say that I strongly believe in the power of books boost empathy. Every child has the right to see themselves represented in the books they read. As it is often said, books are mirrors as well as a windows to the world. We hope that this project will go a little way towards empowering children to speak up and towards more tolerance.
