Not a Dandelion
This is the seedhead of a Goatsbeard.
Before our reunion lunch we had a couple of hours to spare.
We used it walking along a footpath which goes alongside the river Ouse south of the City of York. We were looking for the rare Tansey Beetle as this is one of a very small number of locations where it lives. We have found it on a previous visit. But not today.
The reunion lunch was most enjoyable.
But it was an object lesson about organising such an event when almost all the participants are in their eighties.
A month ago the organiser had a list of 24 who expected to come to York for the event.
On the day there were just 12 of us.
The other 12 had either developed health conditions or had doctor’s appointments today which prevented them from coming.
Of course they would all have wanted the rest of us to enjoy ourselves.
