Parasite

A day mostly at home, catching up with emails and other admin. On a quick garden break I spotted this female Gasteruption jaculator on one of the bamboo canes that has been used as a nest site by a solitary bee. You can see her pushing her long ovipositor into the nest, depositing her own eggs on or near to the eggs of the host. On hatching they will feed on the grubs of the host as well as on stored food.
