It's been a while
We haven't been to the Cave à Jazz in Conilhac since well before the pandemic. So long that when we arrived we couldn't remember exactly which back street it is in and had to ask someone.
As usual, after aperos outdoors you are seated at a table for a dozen with strangers; we happened to be seated across from a couple of ladies from Fabrezan, so we chatted with them. The food was as usual basic but good: rougail, a spicy sausage dish from La Réunion with rice and red beans, and pancakes with jam or nutella and cream.
The band was the Thierry Gonzalez trio with guest saxophonist David Pautric; I wasn't too keen on the first couple of numbers, and didn't fancy a whole evening of it, but luckily they settled down to be less frenetic and actually played some tunes. It was pleasant enough, but I wouldn't go out of my way to see them again. On the other hand it's good to go out for live music, and it saved us from the Fête de la Musique going on below our windows; we heard the two singers warming up before we left and our evening was definitely preferable. They were conveniently just wrapping up when we got home shortly after midnight.
