South Stack

A full day in the North West corner of Anglesey and we decided to venture to the South Stack lighthouse at the furthest extremity.  I had been here when a kid and remembered that it had a very steep climb to get down and back up.  No surprise, no major eruptions of the cliff, and we did have a significant climb down, but the views were splendid on a cooler but sunny day.  We paid for a tour of the actual lighthouse, which involved a very steep internal spiral staircase.  One girl on the visit admitted to having a fear of heights and it was a little puzzling why she had paid to subject herself to climbing up a very thin obelisk - she didn't make it having been advised to climb up last.  We all made it and enjoyed the talk of 6 cylinder diesel engines being replaced with Lithium Ion batteries and what was truly exciting was the news that they would be using an LED bulb soon!!!  The lighthouse is more often closed than not given winds of up to 150 mph at times.  Extra of the "every 10 second" flash of light which i was rather pleased with as it only flashed for a fraction of a second and this was my first attempt.

The birds in the main photo are Razorbills with their more stubby beaks than the similar Guillemot.

We then moved on to Trearddur Bay, another childhood memory where we were able to paddle in the cold sea and enjoy a cider as we surveyed the view.

We followed this with Enoch's fish and chips back at the van and then relaxed in the van with a Brandy as Kevin drifted off and then drifted back with us.  Kevin and Leyna have now swapped phones to let each other choose which blip they are going to post.  Apparently Leyna has about 25 photos of a snorting horse - so we'll see whether he features or not.  It was a very therapeutic day with Kevin and we thoroughly enjoyed the lovely weather and the fine views.
