Harbour

It's Flag Day at the harbour here in Scheveningen,The Hague, heralding the start of the new herring season...only this year the new herring are not yet ready to be harvested. They have to have a fat content of at least 16%, which this year's have not quite reached, therefore it cannot be fished.
In past times, the fishing boats would be adorned with flags when they went out to catch the new season herring, so now most of the boats in the marina tie the bunting flags between the masts on this day.
The annual event still went ahead...why cancel a party, right...and there was still plenty for all to see and do. There were stalls selling traditional hand-made crafts, fish stalls, a children's area, several music stages, old photos of the harbour in times gone by, people in traditional costume, boat trips and boat visits.
The sun and the crowds still put in an appearance, even though the star attraction will be delayed for just a little while longer.
