Broodje's Mohawk
Meet 'Bert Broodje' with whom I had a cool coincidental street encounter.
We spoke for a while and I asked if I could shoot him in the meantime for my daily journal.
Beppy - his actual name - turned out to have an interesting story to tell. Not only is he one of the first hour Amsterdam punkers, he also started a Punk Museum!
I'll certainly visit his museum next time I'm in Beverwijk again as Punk and Alternative music have my interest.
Wanna stroll back to my roots with me?
The Damned / Melody Lee (don't get fooled by first 40 sec ;-)
more Damned? Love song
Or old Pistols footage?

Bert Broodje was born as Beppy Viergever in Rotterdam.
He moved to Amsterdam in 1976 and went to work as an apprentice with Simon Meijssen's bakery. Being a great lover of music, he frequently visited the No Fun recordstore of Amsterdam's Rozengracht. He handed out the left-overs from the bakery to poor young punks that were hanging out in No Fun. They started to nickname Beppy "Broodje" (bread roll).
Broodje was familiar in the Amsterdam punk scene. He was a regular visitor of concerts at Paradiso. The abuse of heroin made him to withdraw from the scene. During 2005, Broodje encountered the Nederpunk (Dutch punk) website that was owned by Kees Smit. This website became a source of inspiration as regards music and other creative aspects of the punk scene. Broodje became interested in creating videoclips and sharing information on YouTube, Hyves (Dutch social media) and Facebook.
His own creativity emerged when he started to manufacture clothes in Jamie Reed's and Vivienne Westwood's early punk styles.
Broodje and Stempel (stamp - Chris Visser) were also invited, as collectors, to collaborate with the Europunk Exhibitions of Rome, Geneva and Charleroi.
Broodje's move to a larger apartment in Beverwijk (West coast of Holland) ignited BroodjesPunkMuseum. The apartment has the spaces to display his own collection of artefacts from the early days of punk and share those with interested parties. Broodje was, and he still is, well known in the punk scene, from 1976 up to now.
