Coming in to land at Lake Geneva
After an early start and breakfast at hotel we landed at Geneva - I was 14 years old on a school trip when I flew into here last and I still remember the excitement of seeing the mountains and the lake on my first trip abroad.
We rendezvoused with our tour group then set off via Montreaux to Brig which is our base for the first few days . Such interesting views from the coach - so many vineyards and lots of apricots !! They are building a new motorway part of which we travelled on with lots of tunnels .
The hotel is adequate basic but I was so pleased that we have a little balcony facing the mountains and the railway station .
We had a wander after dinner - Brig is the base of the Simplon Pass and has a history dating back to Roman times . It’s in the Valais Canton - the Swiss German area . It’s on the Rhine and suffered severe flooding in the 1990s .
The most famous building is the Schloss Stockalper dating back to the seventeenth century. Some lovely gardens around it .
