Larder.
Not the most inspiring blip, but good for my memories. The plasterers are in, so we needed to dismantle the old, original larder. What we thought would be a quick job turned into a major operation when we discovered one shelf was reinforced 3" concrete!
Rant alert ... We downsized to this house which is basically a box, I know it won't exactly be a box when we've finished extending. But it is still a small, low ceiling, well built house (any tradesman will vouch for that!) Apparently, we are the first build for the builders since the new insulation regulations. Fair enough, we 'get that'. But the new extension walls are 12' (31cm) deep with insulation and thermalite blocks. We now have to add 2" (5cm) thermal plasterboard. So, once plastered, in total our walls will be 15" (38cm) thick! Men in suits who have brought these regulations in have given no thought that windowsills now have to be bespoke as there are none off the shelves that size. Also windows and doors are still not built to accommodate such depths. The builders were just shaking their heads in disbelief, and J saying if he know we were going to loose so much space in each room, he'd have had a bigger extension. They reckon we'll have the best insulated house in the street!
