Ah, June
Today is a National Holiday in the U.S. It was given federal status by President Biden in 2021 and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth is celebrated on the anniversary of an order by Major General Gordon Granger which proclaimed freedom for the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas in 1865... TWO YEARS after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863 freeing enslaved Black people held in the Confederacy!
June is also National Pollinator Month and June 19th-25th is National Pollinator Week. Today's Bee photo is of a Florida native two-spotted longhorn bee. She was thoroughly enjoying the nectar of a Cosmos flower. June 1 is the first day of Hurricane Season, very important to us folks here in Florida and...June is my birth month.
