Why?

Every day, I drive past public park playgrounds and nearly every house has a huge gym set in the backyard. For some reason I NEVER see children on these amazing expensive play yards. Does no one ever encourage their kids to play outside? If not, why invest in the fantastic climb/swing/slide extravaganza??
