Cocking to Amberley

Today we walked about 11 miles from Cocking village to Amberley. Fortunately, it wasn't quite as hot as yesterday. We passed through some beautiful  chalk grassland, especially at Dimmer Nature Reserve on Graffham Down where woodland and arable land has been replaced with  wildflower meadows, now full of  orchids and other  flowers, plus butterflies. We spotted a few fritillary  butterflies (probably  Dark Green Fritillary) amongst the  Meadow Browns. Then we passed close by the  highest point on the Sussex Downs,Crown Tegleaze, (830 ft) and later ascended  Bignor Hill, close to  a large Roman site. (Stane Street connecting Chichester with London passed through here.) Finally we descended into the Arun valley, and into the village of Amberley.
My blip shows the  view from our picnic lunch stop looking over Graffham  Down, while the extra shows our approach into Amberley with the flood  plains of the River Arun on the left, and our route tomorrow over Rackham Hill,  in the distance.
