You might think these people are looking at an airport departure board, such are their expressions of boredom and resignation. It is not so! They are actually waiting in a serpentine queue to get in to see and hear Philip Glass at the Hay Festival this evening. The discussion - about his opera "The Perfect American" opening at ENO tomorrow - was fascinating. The piano recital was, well, samey, but most of audience were Huge Fans and suitably reverential.
