One more for my menagerie
I see the robin every day. He’s always waiting for me to appear with food. The squirrel is a new visitor. I watched him for a while and he seemed to be actually swallowing the food rather than carry it away to eat. But, as he is so completely upside down, how does the food get to where it needs to go while he is in that position?
The food in the photo looks like brown bread. But it’s my special bird mix of plain porridge oats with melted margarine to bind them together, plus sultanas. The blackbirds always go for the sultanas! If I put the pot of porridge mix down while I top up the peanut feeders, the blackbirds always swoop down and steal some of the oat mix. They can’t wait for me to put it on the hanging feeder!
It’s far too hot today. Because my house is reverse level, it’s better for sleeping. But the upstairs living areas have huge 70s windows and despite blackout blinds and curtains and fans it’s still unbearably hot!
