It’s an elm!

We had a small tree behind our barn for years and it grew quite a bit in the years we’ve been here . I always assumed it was a species if ash tree as we have a lot of ash on the property. ( Many fewer since the advent of the emerald ash borer though)
So today I found a small tree coming up in the flower bed under the tree and SEek was saying it’s an ash but couldn’t say what kind. Being nosy I thought it would likely be a baby from the big tree it was under and decided to try to ID both that way. Surprise! It’s an American elm! A rarity since the destruction of so many due to Dutch Elm disease here . It looks happy and I am thrilled ! And the baby is an ash tree .
