The lightest highland cow on Minchinhampton Common
I stopped off on Minchinhampton Common whilst driving to Nailsworth. It was quite cool, breezy and overcast. The cows were grazing between Tom Long's Post, the well known and old road sign post at the middle of the common, and the Old Lodge hostelry which stands in the centre of the flat open grassland.
I parked on the common and ventured out for a short walk to the small herd of highland cattle that roam and graze there. The animals are all owned by different local landowners with ancient Commoner's Rights which allow them to have their animals living there during the summer months. A second herd of more traditional looking cows was close by but they don't mingle with the highland cattle.
This highland cow has the lightest coloured coat and I always like to photograph it. The other members of its small herd were all standing to graze or ruminate but this one just sat looking at me.
