In training
Not for the Olympics, as a cat-get-ridder-of. Damn things are crapping in my garden and vegetable patch again.
Of course I'm not training her up for that before you cat lovers get on my back, I jest.
However - a serious question......is it OK that cats can just crap where they want?
Dogs are not allowed, it is a recognised antisocial thing (finally!) and if caught, fines can be enforced. I am a huge believer in this. If you want to own a dog, then you need to respect the fact that others do not want to step in their crap and you should be obliged to pick it up. Part and parcel of owning a dog, you want the good bits then you got to deal with the bad bits.
But cats (who are also carnivores with faeces that carry diseases) are allowed to shit where they want with no comeback! Some cat owners have total responsibility and invest in litter trays and the like - well done to you lot for taking your pet ownership seriously and respecting others, I genuinely think you are cool. The rest though, they just let them out and are happy with the 'I don't care where they do it' attitude; this is pretty selfish in my opinion. I grow vegetables for my family to eat, and maintain a tidy/safe garden for my children to play in. I resent the regular cleaning up of foul-smelling, toxic cat poo when I haven't signed up for it. Don't get me wrong, I do like cats when they are not poisoning my veg patch, but I seem to be getting the rough end of the deal without all the positive things they can bring to one's life.
I bet if I bagged it all up and handed it back to them I would be seen as being antisocial (don't worry, I am far from that stage! Give it at least another five years) or maybe even prosecuted. I would never dream of harming an animal, even if I caught it in the act, but I'm fed up with the way it is deemed OK. You want a pet - you have to take FULL responsibility. It is unfair to expect me to do things to prevent it if I don't like it such as netting off my flower beds (which I do), pay for foul-smelling anti-cat sprays and powders (not bothering any more) or even spend serious cash on those sonic/waterspray devices that scare them off. If they were wild animals then I would not moan one single bit - wild animals have the right to do that because they are in their natural habitat. Cats are domestic choices of others.
Cats are secretly in charge, that's what it is. The lazy buggers have their owners doing everything for them and they do what they bloody like. They come, they go, they sleep when they are not shitting in other people's gardens and they do nothing...... NOTHING. You are their servants/staff and they rule you. Revolution is needed, they need to earn their keep......but let's please start of with training them to crap in a tray in your own house/garden. PLEASE.
(can you tell this gets to me?)
