A good Scottish word
Today was a Bliptastic day in Edinburgh. There was so much going on I could have shot a whole year of blips in one day. There where about 3 different demonstrations at Hollyrood, a Scottish Defence League march (west coast division). Who knew? A James Connolly Celebration with a number of Irish marching bands playing outside the Scottish Museum. Then it was down to the Meadows for our very own Meadows festival with all kinds of goings on from live music to bike maintenance classes so all in all a pretty busy day.
So to choose one pic was tricky in the end I went for a shot of some Swans from St Margaret's Loch on Queen's Drive . However while taking the shot it occurred to me I was not sure what a group of Swans was called. So :A group of swans are referred to as a herd, wedge, team or even bevy. The female swan has a strange name, it is a pen and the babies are referred to as flapper That info was from the web but looking at them all trying to get at some bread at once a better word sprang to mind: A fankle of Swans, a great Scottish word for a tangle which is what the Swans were getting into while all attempting to get to the bread first, it was just a writhing mass of necks, beaks and feathers.
