Robin Hood boiler at Attingham Park

“The Robin Hood boiler, installed in the 1920s, replaces an older version which exploded in the harsh winter of 1919. It used coke to heat all three glasshouses and the cold frames and had to be stoked regularly by the garden boy.
It no longer works as its asbestos lining had to be removed. The explosion led to a lawsuit between Lord Berwick and his tenants during which the Director of Kew Gardens was called.”
