The Burrell
Around 1943 Sir William Burrell and his wife Constance gave their entire eclectic art collection, established from the 1880's, bought with the profits from his shipping company, to the City of Glasgow, stipulating that it should be housed in a bespoke building in a woodland setting.
It took many years, but the city eventually ran a competition for the design of the building, and the competition attracted 242 entrants. The winning design was by Barry Gasson, Brit Andresen and John Meunier.
It is a stunning building, set in the grounds of Pollok Park in the city, and is a great backdrop for his collection.
We visited today and I took many pictures. I am always entranced by the sculptures done by Rodin but chose this Chinese buddha for my blip. It dates from 1484.
We had a very interesting afternoon, but as always, need to go back to see more.
