Jasper the Bear

We arrived in Jasper around 6am after travelling through the most glorious scenery.  About 70 miles out of Jasper we had our first sight of the Rocky Mountains.

We spent the day exploring the town which is so picturesque and surrounded by snow capped mountains.  We popped into the Parks Canada Office to ask about local walks.  The nonchalant description of how we should behave should we encounter a bear left me quite petrified!

In 1948 Jasper the Bear character was created by the Canadian artist James Simpkins for Macleans magazine.  In 1962, the bear was adopted as the official mascot of Jasper National Park.
