Family support
Mr Rat started running with a friend at about 1am starting at our house in Dundee, across to Fife and onto the Coast Path. They made good time to begin with but there was too much tarmac, then the next section was too rough to run very much but they still got on well. A second friend joined at St Andrews and the 1st left a few miles later with family members taking over at Crail.
His legs weren't too happy from the tarmac pounding, it was getting increasingly windy (from the completely wrong direction) and he was getting slower but the next 2 sections (to Elie) were completed with s-in-law and grandson, and a friend coming to give sustenance, encouragement and take pics (she should have been running but has hurt her knee). The 4 of us in the pic accompanied him to Earlsferry (50 miles) when we reverted to plan B. This was to stop for the day, get a massage and good sleep and resume in the morning. The cycle home would have to be abandoned, though that was always an "if" and the strong wind might well have caused an abandonment anyway.
So here is the family support (from Kinghorn where we were heading) at Pittenweem. Extra of the view back along the coast from Elie.
Seeing as daughter and I had missed our support stints for the day we ran a couple of miles further before being picked up.
Back at their house it was food and re-planning the last 21 miles before bed.
