Welcome to the water lilies

 
The first of these seasons’ water lilies are now out and what better way to celebrate than with a haiku from Matsuo Basho’s with his most famous haiku:
 
 
Old pond... 
a frog jumps in 
water's sound.

We don’t have frogs but plenty of newts. so we deduce in Spring the newts eat the tadpoles because there is always a lot of  frogspawn.
