Whalley Abbey
Whalley Abbey
Visited Whalley Abbey today. It was quite big in its day and Housed 30 Cistercian Monks. Largely demolished by Henry and his ‘dissolution of the monasteries’. Interesting fact - the large Pitt seen on the top photo was the ‘Choir Pitt’. There were two Pitt’s, one either side of the naive and the choir stood on a wooden floor above and the Pitt’s acted like a resonating chamber. Theses are a rare example of Choir Pitt’s and may be the only example in Britain.
Excellent cafe. I had a bacon and sausage bab for my lunch.
