Arundel to London

This is a very late posting.

Today was the start of the last leg of our trip.  H and B drove us to Arundel Station after breakfast and, after a tearful goodbye, we boarded a train to London Victoria.  We duly arrived at Victoria, which was incredibly busy, and caught the District Line to Earl’s Court.  We emerged from the station to find that the road to our hotel was immediately across from the exit, so it only took us a few minutes to walk there.  We weren’t able to check in until later in the day, so we left our luggage and decided to walk to Battersea Power Station. We enjoyed walking along admiring beautiful buildings and some rather nice shops. It started to rain a little part way through the journey so we stopped and had a light lunch at a lovely little Lebanese restaurant, then resumed our walk.  It started to rain again just as we arrived at Battersea Power Station, so we were very pleased to go inside.  It’s a huge space filled mostly with rather expensive shops and some eateries, although there were also one or two small, interesting shops that we liked.  We stopped for coffee in a bar called Control Room B and sat where we could do some people watching.  We enjoyed walking around all three floors but were mostly not tempted to go inside the shops.  There are lots of eateries and bars in another area outside the main building, but it was raining heavily so we decided to call it a day and catch the Tube back to the hotel from the Battersea Power Station Tube Station, which is rather a nice space.  We found a Fullers pub called The King’s Head just around the corner from the hotel, so MrMacD was able to enjoy a pint of London Pride as we watched Andy Murray playing a match at Wimbledon.  I enjoyed a G&T.  After drying out at the hotel we went out to find somewhere for supper and decided to go into a Zizzi restaurant as it was close by.  We enjoyed our meal and a glass of wine then returned to the hotel to dry out again and have an early night.  We’ve suddenly realised that we’re actually quite tired.

Apologies, but I am still way behind dipping into fellow Blippers’ journals and responding to comments. I’ve managed to post a couple of blips, but haven’t had time for anything else.

The blip shows Reception and the bedroom wall in the hotel (top left and bottom right); two blue plaques; a notice on Albert Bridge; the Peace Pagoda; a sculpture outside Battersea Power Station; a building on Cheyne Walk; a map of the UK made out of door handles; shots of Battersea Power Station; and the sign outside The King’s Head.
