National Museum
As predicted, the weather was not good, so we went to the excellent National Museum. The indoor part provides a history of the Faroes from its geology and natural history to its culture - the evolution of fishing (that reminded me of The silver darlings by Neil M Gunn), wool (see first extra) , etc... There was also an exhibition of female Nordic photographers which I found interesting.
The outdoor part is an 100 year old farm, with outbuildings. Inside the main part, we spent a good hour chatting with the guide... It was really interesting! We also learnt that this farm belonged to a very wealthy family, so not totally typical, but still a good representation.
After that we grabbed a late lunch in town and went to the tourist office to buy hiking tickets for the island we are visiting tomorrow. Then, using the free bus system, we went back out to Nordic House, which is the major national cultural centre - a very stylish wooden (modern) building.
This evening we went to one of the recommended restaurant - lovely!
